The initiative comes amid increased public discussion surrounding PMAs following the implementation of Singapore's updated active mobility regulations. The simulator is being developed as an educational tool that allows users to experience operating a PMA in a virtual environment before using one in real-world settings.

According to ELFIGO Mobility, the simulator is intended for a broad range of users, including prospective PMA users, family caregivers, healthcare professionals, members of the public, and individuals involved in accessibility planning.

Supporting Public Understanding Through Simulation

PMAs, including motorised wheelchair and mobility scooter, play an important role in helping individuals with mobility challenges remain active and independent. However, many members of the public have limited opportunities to understand how these devices operate or the challenges users may face when navigating public spaces.

The simulator is being designed to replicate common situations encountered by PMA users, allowing participants to experience factors such as turning space limitations, obstacle navigation, pathway etiquette, and accessibility barriers.
