ACGME-I Announces Recipients of the 2027 ACGME International Awards

Six graduate medical education professionals from ACGME-I-accredited institutions and programs are honored with these prestigious awards.

Chicago, IL, Oct. 08, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- ACGME International (ACGME-I) proudly announces the winners of the 2027 ACGME International Awards, celebrating individuals who have shown extraordinary dedication to graduate medical education at institutions and programs accredited by ACGME-I around the world. 

The 2027 recipients of the Susan H. Day Physician Leader Award, which honors physicians who lead educational activities and promote values that underpin ACGME-I accreditation, are: 

  • Ornella Saintérant, MD, Designated Institutional Official, Mirebalais University, Port au Prince, Haiti   
  • Shireen Omer A/Nour Suliman, MBBS, MRCP, MEHP, PhD, Associate Director of Medical Education, Hamad Medical Corporation, Doha, Qatar 

The recipients of the Physician Educator Award, which honors program directors and faculty members directly involved in teaching residents and fellows and caring for patients, are: 

  • Elias Ghossoub, MD, MSc, Psychiatry Program Director, American University of Beirut, Beirut, Lebanon 
  • Danish Abdul Aziz, MBBS, MRCPCH, FCPS, Pediatrics Program Director, Aga Khan University Hospital, Sindh, Pakistan 

The recipients of the Staff Award, which honors administrators and other staff members who have provided extraordinary service to the educational process, to residents and fellows, and to meeting ACGME-I requirements, are: 

  • Aline Yacoubian, PhD, Executive Assistant and Senior GME Program Coordinator, American University of Beirut, Beirut, Lebanon 
  • Betty Muchai, Program Coordinator, Department of Medicine, Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi, Kenya 

These awardees will be honored at the 2027 ACGME Annual Educational Conference, which will take place on 25-27 February 2027, in San Antonio, Texas, US.
